What is Better Jobs Ontario?

Better Jobs Ontario (formerly Second Career) is a provincial government program that provides financial support to individuals who are unemployed, underemployed, or seeking a career change.

You may be eligible for funding if you are:

  • Laid off or unemployed for 6+ months
  • Working part-time or in temporary/gig roles
  • A newcomer to Canada or a youth
  • Receiving social assistance
  • Ready to train for a new job in 52 weeks or less

What Does Better Jobs Ontario Cover?

You can receive up to $28,000 for:
  • Tuition & Fees
  • Books & Supplies
  • Transportation & Living Expenses
  • Childcare & Disability Supports (if applicable)
  • Basic living allowance
  • Manuals, workbooks or other instructional costs

Qualifying for Better Jobs Ontario

You qualify for Better Jobs when:
  • You have been laid off and are not working
  • You have been laid off and are working in a temporary job which just covers your basic costs

You can apply if you’re currently receiving Employment Insurance (EI) or have availed of it in the past.

Take an appointment with an Employment Counsellor at an Ontario Employment Assessment Centre to discuss a suitable training program for you.

Choose your program from the options offered at Toronto Innovation College (TIC).
Please note, final approval is subject to the Ministry of Training, Colleges & Universities (MTCU).

When can I start my program under Better Jobs?
